In honor of safe chemistry and awareness of the free online educational tool, You Be The Chemist® (YBTC) Canada held the Winnipeg Regional Challenge (a multi-round, multiple choice, chemistry competition) on November 24th, 2015 at the University of Winnipeg. During this event, twenty-four grade seven students from local elementary schools participated in five rounds of competition and experiments by Dr. Wood, University of Winnipeg. Dr. Wood entertained the audience with live demonstrations of the YBTC lesson plans and taught the science behind each experiment. All competitors were acknowledged with prize bags, while the winner, Jordan Guberman, from Laidlaw School and runner up, Gabriel Young, from Collège Béliveau, were presented with monetary prizes.

You Be The Chemist® (YBTC) Canada is a program developed to promote and engage today’s youth in the positive use of chemistry. Cambrian has for many years been committed to this rewarding program through Responsible Distribution Canada (formally Canadian Association of Chemical Distributors) and we’re thrilled to see it’s expansion across Canada. Cambrian looks forward to seeing what these young scientists will bring to the table today and in future chemistry!
